Rick Ruhf / AIA, LEED AP / Principal

Rick attended the Rhode Island School of Design and graduated from the Pennsylvania State University. As an architect licensed in five mid-Atlantic states, a LEED Advanced Professional, and member of both the International Code Council and the Design and Construction Committee for the Maryland Affordable Housing Coalition, Rick brings an unparalleled depth of expertise to RPH and every phase of the architectural process. Although he enjoys projects with many technical and design challenges, he also has an artistic eye, which gains expression outside the office in his passion for gardening and origami.

Chuck Hawley / AIA / Principal

Chuck is known around the office for his ability to problem-solve, to handle a large project from schematic down to the tiniest construction detail and his capacity to move from task to task with efficiency. One could say he knows how to juggle, and that would be correct. Chuck juggled at Hershey Park and was even chairman of the International Juggler’s Association. At RPH he’s discovered another natural talent: computer technology. He’s our resident tech geek and Revit expert. A 2003 graduate of Temple University, Chuck was a recipient of the prestigious Alpha Chi Rho Bronze Medal. Chuck, his wife Janelle, and their two children are proud Annapolitans since 2005.

Jean Sovinski / Director of Operations / Partner

Jean is a people person and problem-solver whose expertise lies in practice management. Her role at RPH Architecture encompasses the operations of the business as well as working hand-in-hand with management and clients to translate each project’s needs into a workable plan of action at a reasonable price.  She thrives in the friendly, productive atmosphere at RPH where she manages all aspects of operations and is instrumental in the strategic planning and business development efforts of the firm.  When she is not entertaining during college football season, she can be found volunteering and traveling with her family.

Kara Glynn / Quality Assurance Architect

Kara almost left architecture to become a professional chef, but lucky for RPH, cooking has remained an avocation and we enjoy the benefits of her 20+ years of architectural expertise. A 1995 graduate of Virginia Tech, Kara is particularly skilled with codes and specifications, ensuring exceptional drawings. She also acts as an advisor and mentor to RPH’s staff. Her depth of experience within the field of architecture, including specification writing makes her an invaluable resource to all of the staff.  Prior to joining RPH, Kara worked on substantial commercial and higher education projects, experience she parlays into her current work with RPH. Kara is well-respected by her colleagues in the industry, making her an asset to the firm. Yet nowhere is Kara more dedicated than at home where she is the busy mother of two children.

Greg Lines / AIA / Project Architect

Greg has a keen ability to look at the built environment and appreciate the craftsmanship of the past while seeing the possibilities for the future. Not surprising, Greg excels on renovation and restoration projects. He is also a valuable member of the RPH affordable housing team who is versed in multiple sustainable programs as well as building and accessibility codes. His technical skills with Building Information Modeling (BIM) help clients visualize the possibilities within RPH designs, while his patience and experience help make it reality. Greg lived for years as his own case study in spatial efficiency on his sailboat, but has since opted for a life on solid ground with the occasional weekday sail. He is an active member of the sailing community.

Mike Stinefelt / AIA / LEED AP BD+C / Project Architect

Mike brings a pragmatic approach to Architecture, LEED expertise, and a passion for affordable housing to RPH. A 2005 graduate of Virginia Tech, Mike saw firsthand the importance of stable housing as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. That knowledge informs his work on RPH’s affordable housing team. His advanced certification through the U.S. Green Building Council is indicative of his knowledge of, and commitment to, sustainable practices. Mike and his wife, Megan, enjoy spending their free time in the great outdoors while raising their 2 daughters to appreciate the natural environment.

Ben Gourley / Staff Architect

A graduate of University of Virginia, Ben is a self-starter who enjoys working on all aspects of a project and the extensive experience RPH provides through its diverse and active portfolio. A naturally curious person, Ben’s motto is “A.B.C.: Always Be Creating,” a mantra he applies to his work at RPH and in his off time which he spends designing and building furniture.

Jaclyn Nagy / Staff Architect

Jaclyn’s creative spirit extends well beyond the field of architecture.  As a recent graduate of the Catholic University of America, Jaclyn seeks out opportunities both inside and outside the studio to continuously learn.  From taking a ceramics class at Maryland Hall to documenting her travels in sketchbooks, she is always teaching herself something new.  In the studio, this translates into intricate building design or working through the complex construction process with a client.  When Jaclyn is not learning something new, she can be found tucked in a corner with a good book or designing and painting cornhole boards for her friends and family.
