Construction begins next month on one of Siena Corporation’s most recent ezStorage projects, located just off Route 50 in Fairfax, VA. At 5 stories and about 150,000 SF, this storage facility will house over 1,000 self- storage units. In addition to generating permit & construction documents, RPH created drawings for a Special Exception application and presentation to Fairfax City. The Special Exception was approved and allowed for an off-street parking reduction, industrial use in the highway corridor district, and redevelopment within the flood plain.
While many think architects just design buildings, there is so much more that happens behind the scenes to ensure that structures fit within the cityscape and that they are compliant with applicable building codes. This project reminds us of that- and that there is a lot more required to be a good architect than just designing a building.
